Workshop Description:

Simulation is a powerful teaching methodology that reliably assists students to develop clinical decision making and communication skills. The 3 day intensive workshop will focus on the essential elements of scenario development and utilization of excellent educational practices in simulation education. Participants will develop a scenario during the workshop for use in their own educational setting. Homework will be assigned at the end of Day 1 and Day 2.

Who should attend:

This workshop is designed for educators who desire knowledge and critical skills to design, conduct, and evaluate simulation learning activities. Simulation Educators from all disciplines can attend. Maintaining a low participant to faculty ratio necessitates limiting registration to 20 participants.

Workshop Objectives:

At the completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Apply principles of best educational practice to scenario creation.
  • Analyze selected learning theories and their relationship and application to simulation education.
  • Develop objectives and storyboard for individualized simulation scenario.
  • Utilize features of SimMan™, SimBaby™ and VitalSim™ software to program simulation scenarios.
  • Demonstrate best practice for guided reflection.
  • Validate simulation scenarios through group participation.

  • Programming SimMan™ and SimBaby™ – Part I

Day 2, January 6, 7:30 am-5:00 pm

  • Best Practices for Learning through Simulation
  • Searching for and Applying Evidence
  • Programming SimMan™ and SimBaby™ – Part II
  • Creating and Validating a Simulation Environment

Day 3, January 7, 7:30 am-5:00 pm

  • Guided Reflection
  • Complete Programming and Prepare to Validate Group Scenarios
  • Run and Validate Group Scenarios Created During Workshop

Cancellation Policy:

Registration includes the cost of all course materials, a certificate of attendance, and continental breakfast and lunch each day. Registrations that are cancelled by 11/20/2009 will be refunded minus a $75 processing fee. Cancellations received after 11/20/2009 will be refunded minus a $250 fee. There will be no refunds given for no-shows. All requests for refunds must be made in writing. Early registration is encouraged since space is limited to 20 participants.
