Cristi Coursen was presented an “Excellence in Education” award by the first graduating class of Post Master’s DNP students in recognition of her professionalism and passion as a nurse practitioner and educator (December 2008).

Bev Warne received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Native American Recognitions Days Banquet. As the project director for ASUN, Bev has given a lifetime of service and commitment to Native American health and student success (November 2008).

Kathie Records won the Research/Advancing the Profession award at the March of Dimes gala on August 23, 2008.

Bonnie Gance-Cleveland and Ellen Fineout-Overholt were recently accepted as new members of the American Academy of Nursing. They will be formally inducted at the national AAN meeting in November.

Colleen Keller received the Hartford Senior Geriatric Nurse Research Award at the Western Institute of Nursing Conference in Anaheim, California (April 2008).

Dean Bernadette Melnyk was presented the Loretta Ford Distinguished Fellow Award at the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP) Conference in Nashville for major contributions to the health of children (April 2008).

Debra Hagler, Debbie Ilchak, Gary Brown, Barbara White, Susan Stillwell, Karen Saewert, Beatrice Kastenbaum, Sandra Davidson, Jonna Anderson, Therese Speer, Denise Link, Kay Jarrell, Judy Sayles, Janice Priest, Brenda Morris and Rebecca Peinhardt have passed the Nurse Educator Certification Examination administered by the National League of Nursing.

Colleen Keller was just awarded ASU’s first Foundation Professor in Women’s Health. This distinguished professorship is terrific recognition of all of the outstanding contributions that Colleen has made to our College, ASU and the profession of nursing.

Debbie Hagler was recently selected to receive the 2008 Circle of Excellence in Education Award from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. Debbie will receive her award in May 2008 in Chicago at the 35th Annual National Teaching Institute and Critical Care Exposition.

Dan Weberg was recently appointed to Sigma Theta Tau International’s board of directors for Nursing Knowledge International.

Shannon Dirksen, Tim Porter O'Grady and Kathy Malloch received American Journal of Nursing (AJN) Book of the Year Awards. The formal announcement will be made in the January issue of AJN.

Dean Bernadette Melnyk was appointed to the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force. This task force, housed within the Agency for Healthcare Research & Quality, is an national independent panel of experts in primary care and prevention that systematically reviews the evidence of effectiveness and develops recommendations for clinical preventive services. Jonna Anderson received the Nursing Alumni Chapter Distinguished Faculty Award for this year with comments highlighting her student commitment, creativity and role modeling.

Bronwynne Evans was inducted in to the first cohort of the National League of Nursing’s Academy of Nursing Education. The fellows, selected by the NLN Board of Governors (oversight body for the Academy), were chosen for their sustained and significant contributions to the field of nursing education, October 2007.
