LRC - Clinical Labs

The Clinical Labs at the LRC provides a learning environment for students to practice/master nursing skills in a simulation of various health care settings. Students have the opportunity for experiential hands-on practice. This is provided through formal classes, scheduled practice times and open lab sessions.

Requirements

  • Faculty must provide a detailed list of equipment, models and disposable supplies needed for each lab experience at least 1 month prior to the beginning of the semester.
  • Professional, safe behavior and appearance will be expected when participating in the simulation and clinical labs.
  • Faculty can refer students to staff assisted lab for additional practice by indicating deficits needing review and time frames on the Referral for Skills Review (Word or PDF) and submitting to a Simulation and Lab Nurse Specialist or the Director.

Safety

  • OSHA guidelines will be followed in the simulation and clinical labs.
  • Closed-toe shoes are required when in the simulation and clinical labs.
  • No food or open drinks will be allowed in the simulation and clinical labs.
  • Approved sharps containers will be used to dispose of all sharps immediately after use, as well as any materials contaminated with body fluids according to OSHA guidelines.
  • Students may practice invasive procedures only in select labs and under the direct supervision of faculty or Simulation Lab Nurse Specialist.
  • The Simulation and Clinical Labs are not latex free but latex is minimized as possible.

Clinical Lab Hours

  • Clinical lab courses have scheduled simulation and lab time
  • Open lab is available M-F from 7:30 am to 4 pm
  • Monday 11 am to 3 pm open lab is staffed by a Simulation Lab Nurse Specialist
  • An appointment can be made for individual assistance by contacting a Simulation Lab Nurse Specialist
