ASUN Success Accelerates
A unique and highly regarded program, American Indian Students United for Nursing (ASUN), has been funded by the Indian Health Service (IHS) since 1990 and is intended to increase the number of American Indian students studying nursing at ASU, and also, to increase the number of nurses who would provide care to Native Americans. ASUN scholarships include tuition, fees, books and living expenses, and are available for undergraduate BSN nursing students.
Since 1990, 92 Native American students have been graduated from the College of Nursing and Health Innovation - (78 baccalaureate students and 14 master’s degree students). Of that total number, 48 students were ASUN scholars (47 BSN students and one master’s student). Five American Indian undergraduate baccalaureate students graduated in May 2009, bringing the total to 53.
While not all ASUN Scholars, a total of 14 American Indian students are enrolled in the college’s doctoral programs for fall 2009 -- four in the PhD program (three new students; one continuing student) and 10 in the Doctor of Nursing Practice program. Learn More About ASUN
