Breaking the Cycle
Breaking the Cycle Community Health Care is a unique nurse-managed clinic located in the heart of downtown Phoenix at Grace Lutheran Church. The clinic staff is dedicated to serving families who have nowhere else to turn for care. They are the people in our community whose income or circumstances prevent their access to health insurance.
Mission:
To provide comprehensive, accessible, culturally acceptable reproductive health care to under served populations in Phoenix and the surrounding areas, educational experiences for undergraduate and graduate students, and opportunities for faculty practice and research.
Facts of the Matter:
- BTC provides free or low-cost family-planning services under federal Title X guidelines.
- Each year, the BTC nursing staff mentors many undergraduate and graduate ASU nursing students.
- BTC serves a population in which 98% of clients live below the poverty level and 90% speak Spanish only.
- In 2009, BTC scheduled over 3000 client visits, which served the needs
of approximately 1,600 clients. - Providing healthcare for the uninsured in community settings is cost-effective and reduces the use of emergency rooms for non-urgent needs.
