Center for Improving Health Outcomes in Children, Teens and Families

The changing nature of childhood and adolescent morbidities and mortality over recent decades prompted the creation of the Center for Improving Health Outcomes in Children, Teens, and Families at the Arizona State University College of Nursing and Health Innovation. The center focuses on multidisciplinary research to develop and test interventions that will lead to optimal health outcomes for high-risk children, teens, and families in a culturally diverse world.

The goals of the center include:

  • Community Partnerships: Foster community partnerships to promote socially embedded and community-based research to reduce health disparities
  • Research - Become nationally recognized authorities on improving health outcomes in children, teens and families health disparities and translation research
  • Education - Mentor students interested in maternal/child/family research across curricular levels and sites

Accomplishments

Major accomplishments of the center over the past five years include:

  • The center faculty have received over $12,641,592 for funded research within the last five and a half years.
  • Center faculty have been recognized by over 90 honors, awards, promotions, and appointments.
  • Faculty have established community partnerships resulting in collaborative research projects addressing the needs of the community.
  • The center hosts Scholarship Forums, Writing Salons, and visiting scholars to help develop and promote research and scholarship among center faculty and students.
  • Center faculty members have disseminated research findings through 564 publications, served on editorial boards of major research journals, and provided 345 presentations to both national and international audiences.
