Heidi Sanborn is Clinical Assistant Professor and Director of the RN-BSN and Concurrent Enrollment Program (CEP) in the Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation at Arizona State University. Her career began over 25 years ago in business before following her heart and becoming a nurse. After returning to school for a second degree, she earned her BSN from Salem State University in Massachusetts, leading to a bedside career in both clinical and leadership positions in Med/Surg, progressive care, and critical care. Her career path has been nontraditional, proving that there is no one right way to build your nursing career.
In 2009, she moved with her family to Arizona, trading up from snowflakes to sunshine. Since the move, she has taught at the clinical, associate, and baccalaureate settings, earning a DNP in Innovation Leadership to grow her career in academic system leadership. Heidi has earned distinction as a Certified Nurse Educator (CNE), and focuses her scholarship efforts on interprofessional education, collaboration, and practice through publications and presentations in a variety of national and international forums.

This role managed staffing decisions for all units, responded to all clinical emergencies in-house, served as a family liaison during traumas, and acted as the proxy for the administrator on-call to manage all clinical care delivery. Acted as charge RN on a rotating basis, which included determining staffing needs and patient care assignments, and acting as the unit liaison to the Clinical Resource Nurse. 2003-2004, Registered Nurse, Med/Surg, Exeter Hospital, Exeter, NH Provided direct patient care for the adult population in an orthopedic and oncology medical unit. This role required working with an interdisciplinary team to develop a plan of care and provide complex treatments to optimize health outcomes. 1998-2003, Business Manager, OFMS, Inc., Peabody, MA Lead all aspects of business administration for a small software development and support company. Responsible for administration of employee benefits, development and enforcement of human resource policies and procedures, oversight of P&L and budgeting, payroll, and planning and management for national executive-level conferences. Demonstrated strong leadership skills needed to handle multiple complex projects on an ongoing basis, answering to the company founders, Board of Directors, clients, and staff. 1993-1995, Paralegal, Thornton, Early & Naumes, Boston, MA Provided management of medical malpractice lawsuits in the asbestos litigation arena. Acted as liaison between the lead attorneys and clients, this position was responsible for interfacing with the clients to build a record of exposure that was required to submit applications for reimbursement through multiple ongoing class-action settlements. 1992-1993, Paralegal, Bingham, Dana & Gould, Boston, MA Provided paralegal support to lead partner of the corporate legal division, including tracking claim status for partner meetings, and delivery of document requests for ongoing legal actions within the realm of patents litigation.
