Biography

Judith M. Ochieng is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing and Health Innovation at Arizona State University. Judith is also Family Nurse Practitioner with a federal contactor here in Arizona. Judith was born and raised in Kenya in East Africa. She went to School in Kenya and earned her Diploma in Education. She was a high school teacher Kenya for 12 years before migrating to the United States of America in the year 2000 with her family. In 2001, Judith made the difficult decision of going back to school and changing her career. Being a mother of four, she had to take few classes and continue working to support her family. In 2005, she earned her Associate degree in nursing at Central Arizona College. Judith obtained her BSN and MSN-Ed from Grand Canyon University in 2007 and 2009 respectively. In 2015, Judith earned her PhD and DNP degrees from The University of Arizona with a focus on both research and practice. While pursuing her doctoral degrees, Judith was a faculty member at The University of Arizaona in the Master's Entry Program in Nursing. Prior to going back to school for her doctoral degree, Judith was a nursing faculty member at Central Arizona College from 2008-2010 and an online adjuct faculty member at Grand Canyon University from 2010-2012.  As a staff nurse, Judith has experience in behavioral health, palliative care and acute care nursing. Judith's extensinve experience in the nursing field has shaped and equipped her to be a great professor.

Research Interests

Judith's Research interests is in Diabetes among vulnerable populations. Specifically her work is focused on Risk perception of developing diabetes complecations among African Amedican Women with Type 2 diasbetes, and how risk perception influences diabetes sel-management among this population. Judith has completed her manuscript and is hoping to publish  her work soon.
