Biography

Glen R. Nelson is the Special Advisor to the Executive Vice President, Treasurer and CFO and a Professor of Practice. He also served ASU as the Associate Dean of Business and Strategic Finance for the College of Nursing & Health Innovation and College of Health Solutions. Prior to working at ASU he was the Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration for the Arizona Board of Regents. Glen has held senior administrative positions with several higher education institutions including the University of Wisconsin System, the Oregon University System, and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.  He was selected by the Fulbright Commission as a senior higher education executive to participate in the Do More with Less – Implementing Change in Higher Education Management in Germany and is currently fulfilling a five year term as a Fulbright Specialist Roster Candidate.    

Professor Nelson’s research into undergraduate differential tuition detailed in his dissertation entitled Differential Tuition by Undergraduate Major: Its Use, Amount, and Impact at Public Research Universities provides a basis for further research into the potential impacts of this type of cost on access and choices made by first generation and low socioeconomic status students. He held an appointment with the Wisconsin Center for the Advancement of Postsecondary Education (WISCAPE) and enjoys bridging theory with practice, frequently presenting on his continued research into tuition related topics and by teaching courses to new and advancing higher education administrators within the Western Association of College and University Business Officers (WACUBO).

Dr. Nelson is a co-founder of the Affordability and Transparency Initiative, a joint research collaborative at the Center for Research on Higher Education Outcomes at New York University. https://steinhardt.nyu.edu/crheo/transparency.
