Biography

Samantha recieved her B.S. in Health Sciences from the University of Minnesota.  During this time, she worked for the Mayo Clinic full-time in the Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Nutrition research lab under Dr. James Levine.  She was responsible for managing innovative research projects in childhood obesity.  During this time, she worked with a American Indian school district to implement a standing-desk and activity-based classroom in northern Minnesota.  She also worked with a Somali refugee population to train Community Health Workers to deliver a healthy-home program for youth and families.  After her degree was completed Samantha moved to Arizona to work as a Project Coordinator for Mayo Clinic-ASU Obesity Solutions.  During this time she worked with the City of Phoenix and the Marciopa Department of Public Health to implement an after school program for underserved youth in local libraries.  During this time Samantha completed her M.S. in Healthcare Innovation and her MBA with an emphasis on leadership and healthcare.  Following this appointment Samantha became faculty with the College of Nursing and Health Innovation as one of the first instructors in the Bachelors of Science in Community Health prograsm.  She has taught in this program since 2015, and is currently working on finishing her PhD in Nursing & Healthcare Innovation.  Her current research area is female adolescent sex trafficking, and she will be teaching a new, innovative, interdisciplinary course at ASU - Fundamentals of Human Trafficking.
