2nd Edson Discovery Pilot Awards for Dementia Caregiving

Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation is pleased to announce the competition for the Edson Discovery Pilot Awards for Dementia Caregiving. The awards are made possible by the generosity of Charlene and Orin Edson and are administered by Edson Chair in Dementia Translational Nursing Science.

Two awards will be given to ASU faculty-led teams to conduct pilot studies in dementia caregiving and obtain strong preliminary data to support external grant funding. Dementia caregiving is broadly defined as involving caregivers who provide care to people with dementia, measuring caregiver outcomes, or benefiting caregivers.

Deadline for Submission: March 31, 2022
Expected Decisions on Awards: First week of May 2022
Deadline to Accept or Decline Award: Second week of May 2022
Expected Announcement of Award Winners: Late May 2022

Criteria for award selection

  • ASU Faculty (PI must be ASU faculty)
  • Significant knowledge gap in dementia caregiving
  • Achievable aims
  • Feasible and rigorous methods
  • Strong research team
  • Adequate undergraduate student involvement
  • Strong potential for future funding

 

Budget

  • Each award will be $25,000 for one year.
  • Funds can be used to support all aspects of a study, including but not limited to release time, supplies, equipment, participant payment.
  • Must include methodological consultation (free or paid).

 

Expectations

  • Consult with Edson Chair in Dementia Translational Nursing Science.
  • Submit progress report at end of the funding period and manuscript within a year of post-funding.
