Graduate Degrees - Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)

Take your career to the highest level with a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from the Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation. Our DNP specializations and NP certifications cover nine different topic areas, preparing you to lead in a variety of unique health care settings. Whether you’re designing an intervention to improve pediatric outcomes in your hospital or implementing the latest best-practices in gerontology, these DNP specializations and NP certifications give you the tools you need to succeed in your career and advance health care.

All programs are offered in a hybrid iCourse and in-person format that requires students to travel to the Downtown Phoenix campus for up to a week for orientation at the beginning of the program and two or three times per semester. Edson College also offers a DNP/PhD concurrent enrollment program.

Advanced Nursing Practice (Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner)

Learn to develop a framework for developmentally supportive, family-centered, culturally-appropriate advanced nursing practice for infants and children with unstable chronic, complex acute and life-threatening illnesses. Courses are designed to prepare the student for certification in advanced practice nursing as an acute care pediatric nurse practitioner.

Advanced Nursing Practice (Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner)

Advanced your knowledge and skills for primary care, case management, screening and health promotion of adults through the lifespan in a variety of settings, including private practice, ambulatory clinics, long-term care facilities and the patient's home. Courses are designed to prepare the student for certification in advanced practice nursing as a adult-gerontology nurse practitioner.

Advanced Nursing Practice (Family Nurse Practitioner)

Develop expertise in providing primary care to individuals of all ages within traditional, nontraditional and culturally diverse families. Courses are designed to prepare the student for certification in advanced practice nursing as a family nurse practitioner.

Advanced Nursing Practice (Family Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner)

Hone your expertise in mental health care to individuals of all ages within traditional, nontraditional and culturally diverse families. Courses are designed to prepare students for certification in advanced practice nursing as a family psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner.

Advanced Nursing Practice (Innovation Leadership)

This concentration is directed toward master's degree-prepared professional nurses who seek the scholarship, skills and capacity to lead effective change in systems, organizations and practice environments, using innovation theories and methodologies as the frame for their leadership practice. The focus is on improving health care through facilitating a culture of best practice and providing skills necessary to develop advanced practice nursing leaders for the future.

Advanced Nursing Practice (Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Primary Care)

In this concentration the focus is on the development of a framework for developmentally supportive, family-centered, culturally appropriate advanced nursing practice with infants and children. Courses are designed to prepare the student for certification in advanced practice nursing as a pediatric nurse practitioner.

Advanced Nursing Practice (Women's Health Nurse Practitioner)

Learn the theories, principles and clinical skills in the care of women and their families including critical thinking, diagnosis, problem-solving and nursing management of women throughout the maternity cycle and with common gynecological problems. Client education, communication and collaboration are emphasized.

Advanced Nursing Practice

This program is designed specifically for master's degree-prepared advanced practice nurses seeking a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree. Courses are designed for clinical experts and are innovative, interesting and organized to provide students with expert colleagues 

DNP
Emergency Nurse Practitioner

This program provides a foundation for this specialty. Courses focus on the development of a framework for patients with unexpected illness in pre-hospital, urgent care and emergency department settings. The focus of these courses is on the delivery of health care services to patients across the lifespan in these settings.

Nurse Education in Academic and Practice Settings (Graduate Certificate)

This postbaccalaureate certificate provides an accelerated educational experience for nurses and other health professionals inspired to teach in academic and practice settings. Enjoy the convenience of online courses using state of the art technology with the enrichment of in-person sessions.

DNP Student Projects

By collaborating with nursing leaders, health care organizations and community groups, DNP projects exhibit the integration of new knowledge and expertise to improve outcomes through organizational/systems leadership, quality improvement processes, innovation and translation of evidence into practice. Past projects have included topics such as:

  • Mindfulness to improve early childhood education.
  • Water safety education program for primary care providers.
