The Increasing Physical Activity through Social support and Stress resilience
Project Description:
The Increasing Physical Activity through Social support and Stress resilience, or I-PASS, study will begin enrolling participants in June 2025. We are recruiting participants who are age 60 years and older, living alone, and noticing changes in their cognitive functioning. The I-PASS intervention leverages evidence-based behavioral change techniques to help older adults increase their physical activity, social support, and stress resilience through tech-enhanced goal-setting. Physical activity helps to reduce depression, anxiety, stress, and inflammation, all of which are believed to contribute to activity’s ability to reduce risk for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD). However, only 27-44% of adults aged 65 years and older get the recommended 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity per week. This trial will examine the role of technology in helping participants gradually incorporate physical activity, social engagement, and stress resilience into daily life using incremental goal-setting.
