Clinical Nursing Application for Advancement

Students must complete and submit the Clinical Nursing Advancement Application to be considered for Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation’s summer/fall 2026 clinical nursing programs, which include the Traditional BSN and Accelerated BSN pathways.

For additional information about each program’s structure, prerequisites, timelines, and requirements, please review the advancement guides available on the Clinical Nursing Advancement website.

Available Clinical Programs

Traditional BSN

The Traditional BSN is a full-time four-semester program requiring a total of 63 credit hours. Students complete 15-16 credit hours per semester, including theory, lab and clinical rotations. Applicants may qualify through direct admission or by applying through the competitive advancement process.

Accelerated BSN

The Accelerated BSN is a 12-month, full-time program requiring a total of 50 credit hours over three consecutive terms (fall, spring, summer), including theory, lab and clinical rotations. All applicants are considered through the competitive advancement process.

BSN Advancement Pathways

There are three types of applicants for the BSN programs:

  • Direct Admission applicants are first-degree seeking students who earned this status upon entering ASU as a freshman and have met continuing eligibility criteria each semester.
  • First-degree applicants are students who are working towards completion of their first bachelor’s degree and will not have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution when the summer/fall 2026 clinical nursing program begins.
  • Postbaccalaureate applicants are students who have obtained or will obtain a bachelor’s degree from a U.S. regionally accredited institution or recognized international institution before the clinical nursing program begins in summer/fall 2026, and who are applying for an additional bachelor’s degree in nursing from ASU. Postbaccalaureate applicants should also consider applying for the MS Nursing (Entry to Nursing Practice) program.

Cohort Ranking

Cohorts may be offered at the following campuses: Downtown Phoenix campus, West Valley campus, Polytechnic campus. You must indicate your cohort preferences by ranking all of the options below.

Cohort Selection Instructions:

  • Each selection must be different. The same cohort cannot be chosen more than once. If you select the same cohort more than once, Edson College will contact you to re-rank, which will cause a delay in processing your application.
  • Rank cohorts carefully. This will determine placement into the clinical nursing program. List your top preferences first, followed by any options you may not qualify for or do not wish to be considered for.
  • Placement in your preferred cohort is not guaranteed, but rankings help guide the placement process.

Items Required for Advancement

Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS)

The TEAS measures essential skills in reading, mathematics, science, and English language and usage. The minimum score accepted is 58.7%. A score of 58.6% or below will not be considered. To meet the priority deadline, official TEAS scores must be on file with Edson College by the advancement deadline.

TEAS scores are valid for two years. On the advancement deadline, TEAS exam scores must be no more than two years old (between February 1, 2024 through February 1, 2026). Applicants may have multiple attempts at the TEAS. The highest, valid score will be considered.

Health and Safety Requirements

All applicants are required to create a Complio account by the priority advancement deadline. To remain eligible for advancement, all health and safety requirements must be fully completed and approved by March 2, 2026, with the exception of the drug screening, criminal background check, and the Statement of Health Clearance, which follow a separate timeline. Applicants who do not complete their required items by March 2 will be classified as late applicants and will only be considered for advancement if all requirements are eventually met and if space permits.

Students who are identified for advancement or alternate status must then complete the remaining health and safety items, including the drug screening, criminal background check, and Statement of Health Clearance, by March 27, 2026 to maintain their eligibility.

To support you in completing your health and safety requirements, please plan to attend at least one Health and Safety Drop-In Session. These sessions are designed to help you review your documentation, confirm that each item meets the established standards, and address any questions you may have about the Complio submission and approval process.
