Edson College’s Alumni Mentorship Program

The Alumni Mentorship Program (AMP) is a program offered by the ASU Edson College Alumni Relations Team and is designed to help current Edson College students connect with alumni. This increases students’ awareness of career opportunities, builds students’ professional skills, and enhances overall success and retention. Alumni Mentors are ASU Edson College Alumni who are willing to answer questions and be available to offer advice to student mentees on a monthly basis. These Edson College students are individuals who can benefit greatly from connecting with alumni who have experience in a variety of healthcare specialties and can shed light on the working environment of the healthcare setting. Student’s can benefit from the insight of newly graduated alumni just as much as a well-established alum with years of experience! This program is a great introduction to the world of networking for students aspiring to become a professional in healthcare.

How to get started?

The program is quite simple but gratifying. After filling out the interest form and commitment agreement, students and alumni are matched based on degree major preference, shared interests, and complementary personalities. Student mentees communicate on a monthly basis with a seasoned alum to ask questions and learn more about opportunities available to them in the realms of healthcare.

What is the time commitment to be involved in the program?

Both Alumni Mentors and Student Mentees are asked to commit to the program for one academic year. This period of devotion furnishes ample time for Alumni Mentors and Student Mentees to connect and learn together. AMP is designed to start in September and continue through April, unless a mentee and mentor connection has been established mid-term. Mentees are expected to reach out to the Alumni Mentors and make consistent, monthly contact throughout the term of the program. This communication can take place over a variety of platforms, such as but not limited to virtual meetings, phone calls, emails, or in person meetings.

What can I expect if I join?

Participants in the Alumni Mentorship Program can expect to receive monthly communication from the Edson College Alumni Relations Team with reminders of events and suggested topics of interest to encourage discussion. Communication between mentors and mentees is expected to be professional in nature always, including not only in written and verbal communication, but also in respecting professional etiquette by communicating during business hours and restricting communication to topics of degree and career relevance.
