Wow oh wow, I am amazed by how much I can learn, experience and gain from my time here. I was introduced to the community where we will be doing our service-learning projects. We are building stoves, ovens and chimneys out of available materials including, bricks, mud and water for the community homes.
This week we continued our exploration of the culture in Peru traveling via van and train to hike. We stayed overnight in Aguas Calientes and went to the hot water springs to soak in the warm mineral water. The next morning, we took a bus up to Machu Picchu to hike and take in the sights.

It’s been a fun and hectic few days here, but it’s safe to say that I am so excited to be here. Since my last post, I had arrived in Lima and made my way to Cusco! I was greeted by our fantastic partner Kaya, who picked me up from the airport and brought me to the hotel we will be staying for the next 3 weeks. On the drive to the hotel, I was mesmerized by the life and amazing views. It really hit me that I am finally in Peru! Cusco is filled with so much life, diversity and culture.
Nursing Education Exchange (NEXus) Program
The Arizona State University (ASU) Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation is a member of the Nursing Education Exchange (NEXus). NEXus is a collaboration between participating doctoral programs in nursing that allows doctoral students enrolled at member colleges and universities to take courses for a common price that may not be offered at a student's home institution.
This summer marks the first study abroad trip back to Peru since 2019. The program, Exploring Healthcare, Culture, and Ethics in Peru, introduces students to global health practices, the importance of culturally relevant health care and more.
